Title: Matrix polarization: a new way of handling randomness and dependencies in information processing
Abstract: We present in this talk a low-complexity method which allows to extract randomness and dependencies in random matrices having arbitrarily correlated rows and independent columns. It is shown how this method can be used to treat in a unified manner several problems in information processing such as: distributed data compression (Slepian-Wolf coding), compression of sources with memory or multiple-access communication. We then present an extension of this method to construct deterministic extractors for high min-entropy sources in computer science. Finally, new perspectives emerging from the connection between the considered coding and computer science problems are discussed.
